Yesterday, I spoke about a game where the queen and bishops worked very well together controlling three consecutive diagonals. Today’s game had a very similar theme. The three amigos, the queen and the bishop pair, were instrumental in creating a win with a checkmate by move 16. In this case, the queen and bishop pair created a diagonal net from which the king could not escape.
Like my opponent from yesterday’s game, the early impulse trading of pieces in the opening was damaging as they lost their most active pieces, while supporting me in developing pieces. My use of the Alekhine Gambit, effectively trading a pawn for quicker development paid off in this context as by the midgame, I had a massive lead in development and iniative. I hope you enjoyed this video, and thanks for watching!
