chess noob Quick Wins! is a new series of short videos, to demonstrate very quick wins! As a beginner, you become aware of the Scholar’s Mate and the Fool’s Mate, but neither of these show up in real games. However, there are tricky quick checkmates and wins that occur, even at the intermediate level of chess.
This game was sent in by one of my subscribers (@uriahshonor) – a very clean 13 move checkmate. Amazingly, they were rated in the 600s against an opponent who was almost 1300!
My subscriber with the White pieces played very solidly and followed opening principles against their opponent who seemed to be trying a hypermodern opening. At the beginning of the middle game, White had both bishops, queen, and a knight ready to attack Black’s king-side, which is where they had castled. They executed beautifully, exploiting Black’s bad move with a well-timed Greek gift bishop sacrifice! Well done!
