chess noob Quick Wins! is a series of short videos, to demonstrate very quick wins! As a beginner, you become aware of the Scholar’s Mate and the Fool’s Mate, but neither of these show up in real games. However, there are tricky quick checkmates and wins that occur, even at the intermediate level of chess.
This week, we have another quick win from my subscriber @shlomo55555 with another beautiful game of the Open Italian!
This game is a 9-move win at 100% accuracy according to chess.com’s cloud analytic engine (Stockfish 15 NNUE @ depth 30) – absolutely brilliant!
The game begins normally, except that Black does play a rather odd third move (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 f6). My subscriber goes for the Open Italian with (4. d4) which I’m beginning to like more and more! The tension in the centre is immediately resolved with a series of trades and then on move 6, Black plays (6… b6), presumably with a goal to fianchetto their queenside bishop. However, this is a massive blunder [+8.75] as White now has a devastating fork with (7. Qd5). Black loses their rook on move 8, and flustered, loses their queen on move 9. Suffering from critical emotional damage, Black resigns. GG!
