Tayler Opening | AMAZING 100% ACCURATE DOUBLE BRILLIANT GAME in 9 moves! Quick Wins #59

Today’s game is from @eNoDev, who played a stunning game! This was a 9-move quick win with perfect accuracy, and two brilliant moves! Amazing!

My subscriber had the white pieces, and played an unusual opening, the Tayler Opening (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Be2). Eric Schiller has only a brief description of it in his book, “Unorthodox Chess Openings” and is dismissive of it. However, Stockfish 16 NNUE thinks that this opening is fine with an evaluation of [-0.1].

It’s fascinating how this slow-looking opening catches Black unawares. Black responds with a normal Italian-esqe (3… Bc5) but this was an inaccuracy [+1] with White having the unexpected brilliant move, on move 4 (!!), of (4. Nxe5)! After Black captures the knight, White now has a relatively common tactical pattern of the d-pawn fork of the knight and bishop (4… Nxe5 5. d4).

Black desperados their bishop, White recaptures in the centre with their queen, and Black now flustered (but also barely thinking through their moves with playing blitz like it’s bullet), hangs their g-pawn with a backwards knight move, a blunder (5… Bxd4 6. Qxd4 Nc6 7. Qxg7).

Black offers a queen trade, their only good move with x-ray defence of their rook (7… Qf6) and White finds the second brilliancy in this game with (8. Bh6)! At best, Black must trade their rook for the bishop. However, if Black isn’t careful, there is an immediate mate-in-one threat. We had something in between with Black blundering their queen [+9.5]. On move 9, they resign, inflicted with emotional damage. GG!
